Madder Root, Rubia cordifolia, Ground Powder

Rubia cordifolia powdered roots make dyeing with this traditional dye easy because the roots are completely ground to powder. You can use a nylon stocking or a mesh sac tied with string to contain the powder if dyeing yarns. Warm the water and stir the roots for 5-10 mins, add fiber and simmer (between 185-200 degrees max) to develop a dark red. Madder root is dyed at 35-100% WOF for a medium depth of shade. If your water is soft, add Calcium Carbonate at 2% on the weight of the goods dyed.
